The project
Electrauvision developed the new software for the Danish hybrid ferry “Kanalen”, sailing between Thyborøn and Agger. The ferry transports approximately 7,000 trucks, 60,000 cars and 145,000 passengers annually.
Our solution
The new software controls the engines, generators and batteries of the ferry. Previously, both engines were running all the time. The new software, called ECEC, controls the ship’s energy system and provides significantly better management of consumption by automatically starting and stopping engines. This was previously done manually. Now, it is only necessary to have one of the two motors running at a time to recharge the batteries. As a result, the intervals between servicing the engines will be twice as long and up to 40,000 litres of diesel are saved per year. This leads to lower CO2 emissions and lower operating costs.
“Kanalen” is the first newly built hybrid ferry of its kind in Denmark. Electrauvision is proud that the installation was done successfully together with Thyborøn – Agger Færgefart.
